Years of heat cycling, water pressure, vibration from pumps and sometimes poor original installation take their toll. Sealants harden, bolts corrode, stays fail and joints start to weep. The panels themselves are usually still sound, which is why rectification works so well.
What is GRP tank rectification?
GRP tank rectification is the repair of a glass-reinforced plastic water tank to make it watertight and structurally sound again. It typically includes draining and cleaning, resealing or re-laminating leaking joints, repairing cracked panels, replacing corroded bolts or internal stays, and a fill test, using materials suitable for potable water.
For drinking-water tanks, material choice matters. Resins, sealants and top coats in contact with water must be suitable for potable use and fully cured before refilling. We then coordinate cleaning and disinfection so the tank returns to service in a hygienic condition. For many leaking joints, an internal laminate over the joint lines seals the tank as a continuous shell.

Planning the outage
We agree timing with the building to minimise water disruption, for example compartment by compartment on divided tanks, or with temporary supply arranged by the FM team.
Draining and cleaning
The tank is drained and cleaned, and the repair areas are dried thoroughly. Confined-space permits, gas testing and ventilation are in place for internal work.
Surface preparation
Joint lines and damaged areas are ground to expose fresh laminate and cleaned. Corroded bolts are replaced with suitable stainless or coated fixings.
Structural repairs
Failed internal stays are replaced (stainless steel or GRP) and external bracing is repaired so panels are correctly restrained before sealing.
Re-lamination and sealing
Joints and cracks are laminated with potable-water-suitable resin and reinforcement. Where many joints are affected, a continuous internal laminate is applied.
Curing
Laminates cure fully per the resin data, with post-cure where specified, before the tank is refilled, so no uncured material is in contact with water.
Fill test and handover
The tank is refilled and monitored, typically for 24–48 hours, with cleaning and disinfection coordinated before return to service and records handed over.
